CAREERS IN THE TEACHING PROFESSION Length of Program: 1 year Credits earned: 3 Recommended Courses: College Prep Academics Instructor: Trish Elliott pl_elliott@portagelakescareercenter.org College-bound seniors interested in a career in teaching will learn orientation to the teaching professions, subject-matter knowledge, understanding the learner, communication skills, planning instruction, teaching strategies, technology skills, school/society relationships, and professional development. Students will attend lab classes in the afternoon and complete field experience with mentor teachers in local schools, grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12.
