GENERAL INFORMATION ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Portage Lakes Joint Vocational School District provides educational programs and activities without regard to race, color, national origin, sex and disability. High school students may be accepted into a program with approval of the Adult Director and their home school. BOOK FEES Textbooks, workbooks and manuals are used in most classes. Books vary in cost and are included in the course fee for most classes. Book prices are subject to change. CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION A certificate of completion will be awarded to each student who attends 92 percent of scheduled part-time classes and satisfactorily completes the class. A Career Technical Certificate of Completion will be given to full-time and modular students who complete all course requirements and have an attendance rate of 92 percent and grade average of 80 percent. CERTIFICATION EXAMS Students are responsible for the cost of industry certification exams except as noted in program costs. CONFIRMATION AND CANCELLATIONS We do not mail class confirmation. You will be notified if your class is changed or cancelled. CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS (CEU’S) One CEU is earned for each ten contact instructional hours. For example, 20 hours of instruction equals 2.0 CEU’s. The CEU is a national system of measurement available in certain Portage Lakes Career Center programs. FOOD/BEVERAGES Vending machines are located in the cafeteria. All food and beverages MUST be consumed in the cafeteria and are not permitted in classrooms or lab area. SMOKING - Portage Lakes Career Center is a SMOKE FREE facility. NORTH CENTRAL ACCREDITATION Portage Lakes Career Center’s Adult Education has met the requirements to be accredited through the North Central Association of Colleges and Universities. The Association works to improve the quality of education through a system of evaluation and accreditation. PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES We encourage persons with disabilities to participate in all programs. Please notify the Adult Education office if any special arrangements must be made in order to make such participation possible. Our facility is barrier-free. REFUNDS Full-time Programs: If a student withdraws from a full-time program once classes have begun, the percentage will be calculated on the total program cost minus the books/uniforms, items, services or monies encumbered. See the chart below for refund percentages. Official withdrawal is defined as the student’s last day of attendance. There will be no refund of testing fees, deposit, books/uniforms, items, services or monies encumbered for the student.% of Hours Completed % Refunded to Student 0-20% 60% 21-40% 40% 40-100% 0% Modular Programs: Any student who withdraws before the second night of a modular program will receive a 100% refund minus testing fees, deposit down, books/uniforms, and a $25 withdrawal fee. Any student withdrawing after the second night of a program will not receive a refund.Part-time Courses: Any student that withdraws from class must do so five business days prior to the start of class to receive a refund. There is a $25 cancellation fee.SATISFACTION GUARANTEED In an effort to guarantee your satisfaction, a credit voucher will be issued if you are not satisfied with your class. A credit voucher is good only for the next session of part-time classes. No vouchers will be issued after the second night of class. SCHOOL CLOSING Unscheduled closings will be broadcasted on WAKR, WHLO, WKDD, WNIR, WONE, WQMX by noon for evening classes. Adult Day classes are closed when PLCC is closed during the morning. There are no classes 09/03/07, 10/04/07, 11/22-23/07, 12/24/07-01/01/08, 1/21/08, 02/07/08, 02/13/08, 3/21/08 and 05/26/08. SENIOR CITIZENS All persons ages 65 or older may register for on-campus classes at half the tuition cost unless noted in course description. This offer does not apply to books or supply fees.
