2. Let There Be Energy Saving Light

CFL   NEXT :: BACK

Better lighting efficiency requires us to change old habits and be more responsible.  Did you know that if every American household were to change one of their traditional light bulbs to an energy saving light bulb, emissions equivalent to the use of more than 800,000 cars would be prevented?  Compact fluorescent light bulbs and Light Emitting Diodes cost more than your standard light bulb, but are worth the price over a long period of time.  They are proven to last longer, and will save you money on your monthly energy bill.
            Compact fluorescent bulbs last usually around 10,000 hours and they only use about one fourth of the energy a normal light bulb uses.  It must be said that CFLs contain a small amount of mercury.  When you are disposing of them, make sure that they are properly recycled.
            There are more actions you can take to make sure that you do not waste energy when it comes to lighting.  It would be an excellent idea to utilize natural light whenever possible.  During daylight hours you can ensure that you take advantage of natural light by leaving your blinds and curtains open.  Get into the habit of turning off lights when you will be not using them, make it second nature.
